WSU's policies regarding sexual discrimination, harassment and assault
Wayne State University and the broader community offer resources for individuals who have experienced domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, sex discrimination or harassment.
These agencies provide crisis intervention, safety planning, information, referrals, and support for victims, concerned individuals (friends/family/co-workers), and others seeking information and guidance to help someone they know.

WSU's Title IX Director is charged with promptly handling all reports of sexual misconduct; implementing interim measures; coordinating Wayne State's response, investigation and resolution of all reports under Title IX; ensuring appropriate education and training for students and employees; ensuring appropriate action to eliminate sexual misconduct, prevent its recurrence and remedy its effects.
WSU's Title IX Director is supported by several Deputy Title IX Coordinators and other University administrators and departments, including the Office of the General Counsel and the Office of Equal Opportunity.
The Title IX Director and Deputy Title IX Coordinators can be contacted by telephone, email or in person during regular business hours. If you need to report an incident after regular business hours, please leave a message or email and someone will get back to you at the beginning of the next business day.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS provides free and confidential counseling services to currently enrolled students. The licensed professional counselors, psychologists, and social workers at CAPS promote a culture of understanding and growth through individual and group counseling.

The Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) is responsible for the implementation of the University's Non-Discrimination / Affirmative Action Policies, Sexual Harassment Policy and Sexual Assault Policy. The OEO follows the procedures under the Discrimination and Harassment Complaint Process to ensure that employees and students are not discriminated against in employment, educational programs and activities on the basis of race, color, sex (including gender identity), national origin, sexual orientation, familial status, marital status, height, weight, disability or veteran status. Any member of the campus community, including students, staff, and faculty, may file a complaint with the OEO.
Student Conduct Officer, Dean of Students Office

Students, staff, and faculty may initiate student conduct charges against any student believed to have committed a violation of the Student Code of Conduct by providing information pertinent to the charge via the Student Charge Form. Such violations include, but are not limited to, sexual assault, physical assault, stalking, and harassment. Cases of alleged student misconduct are reviewed and adjudicated by the Student Conduct Officer in the Dean of Students Office. Under the WSU Student Code of Conduct, students responsible for violations of the Code are subject to administrative sanctions up to and including expulsion.
Counseling and Testing Center - College of Education

The Counseling and Testing Center provides free comprehensive mental health services for students and the local community as part of an advanced graduate educational program in which counselors-in-training serve under licensed professional faculty supervision. The Counseling Center offers both individual and group counseling.
WSU Psychology Clinic

The WSU Psychology Clinic serves as the training facility for the Department of Psychology Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology. The clinic provides affordable psychological assessment and treatment to students, staff, and the local community on a sliding-fee scale - No insurance accepted.
University Ombudsperson

The Ombuds Office provides a safe place to ask for help on campus. Students may contact the Office of the Ombudsperson when they need clarification on Wayne State policies and procedures, when they have a university-related problem that has not been resolved by regular university procedures, or when they have university-related questions for which they cannot find an answer. The Ombudsperson strives to see that student needs are met and that students can focus on making academic progress at Wayne State.

Victim Advocates are available through the Detroit Service Corps. To assist with filing for a Personal Protection Order (PPO), safety planning, and connecting individuals with resources and support.
Wayne County SAFE

Wayne County SAFE (WC SAFE) provides compassionate and trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault. The organization is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All services are free of charge and available to ALL ages men, women, and children. Medical-forensic exams (also known as rape kits) are provided up to 120 hours following an assault. Counseling and advocacy services are available to anyone who identifies as a survivor of sexual assault, sexual abuse or incest ~ no matter when it occurred. WC SAFE services are available to anyone, no matter where they live or where they were assaulted.

Detroit Receiving offers expertise in many specialty areas including emergency medicine and trauma. Medical-forensic services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) with specialized training in providing comprehensive care to survivors of sexual assault.

RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline which is made up of a network of independent sexual assault service providers who answer calls to a single, nationwide hotline number. One nationwide hotline makes it easier for survivors to be connected with the local help and resources they deserve. Confidential support from a trained support specialist is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through RAINN's Online Hotline confidential chat system.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential one-on-one support to women, men, children, and families affected by domestic violence. The Stalking Resource Center (SRC) is a program of the National Center for Victims of Crime.
